SSYCC’s vision is of a welcoming, vibrant and inclusive society where people are supported to achieve their full potential, and everyone actively participates in community life.

Mission

SSYCC’s mission is to make a positive difference by encouraging participation, strengthening community relationships and providing opportunities for learning and development.

SSYCC’s work is based upon and informed by the following values:

• Social justice and equality – working for fairness and equality and addressing social and economic issues experienced in the community

History:

• Scotch Street Youth Club was formed in 2008
• 5th March 2008 – Detached work in local area with SELB Youth Worker
• Use of small portacabin from September 2009 to June 2011
• Use of School from September 2011 – March 2013
• New Youth & Family Centre from May 2013 – date
• 10 years of Summer Schemes run in both the School and SSYCC
• Summer Extravaganza – August 2013 (7 Rural Clubs) – 500+ Attendance
• Pride of Craigavon Good Relations Excellence Runners Up Award 2014
• Pride of Craigavon Good Relations Excellence Winners Award 2015
• Pride of Craigavon Almac Legacy Award 2015
• Change of name from SSYC to SSYCC in 2017
• Amendment to Constitution in 2018 to include wider areas
• Successful with BBC main grants scheme in early 2019 for 3 year programme of work, worth just under £90k.
• Successful with TNL community fund in early 2019 to fund a 3 year programme ‘iRural’ worth £500k. The purpose of the iRural project is to work with young people from rural Craigavon, supporting them in a holistic manner, as individuals, as part of the family and as part of the community. The iRural project will also create opportunities for participants by helping to raise their aspirations and self-esteem in order to break the culture that is mentally limiting young people in rural areas.
• In 2020 SSYCC were successful with a BBC Next Steps application and in partnership with Oasis established the Step Out Project which focuses on one to one support post Covid Lockdown.
• In 2021 an application to Rank Foundation secured support for an internship to develop and deliver Health and Wellbeing programmes to rural young people.
• In 2022, SSYCC successfully tendered for the delivery of the Uniting Communities programme on behalf of the Department for Communities in partnersip with Healthy Kidz & Oasis
• Now employing 5 staff members.
